Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Scribe (“Scribe”, “we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Scribe is a Google Chrome extension and companion website that turn the captions of a Google Meet call into a live transcript and automatically check off a meeting agenda. Scribe is operated by Ethan Hennenhoefer. If you have questions, contact us at ethanai@hennenhoefer.org.

1. How Scribe works (in brief)

You install the Scribe extension in your own Chrome browser and sign in. When you join a Google Meet, the extension reads the caption text that Google Meet already displays on the screen and sends it to your private account. We do not record audio or video, we do not join your call as a participant or “bot,” and only you (the person who installed Scribe) run any software. Captions must be enabled in the meeting for Scribe to read anything.

2. Information we collect

CategoryWhat it is
Account informationYour email address and a password. Passwords are handled and stored in hashed form by our authentication provider (Supabase) — we never see or store your plaintext password.
Meeting contentThe Google Meet caption text you capture (your live transcript), including speaker names as shown by Google Meet; the agenda items you create (titles and descriptions); and which items have been checked off, along with short quotes the AI uses as evidence.
Technical dataAuthentication tokens kept in your browser’s local storage and the extension’s storage so you stay signed in. Our hosting providers may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP address and request times) for security and reliability.

We do not use third-party advertising or analytics/tracking tools, and we do not sell your personal information.

3. How we use information

4. Service providers we share data with

We use a small number of trusted providers (“subprocessors”) to run Scribe. We share only what is needed for each to do its job.

ProviderPurpose
SupabaseDatabase, authentication, and storage of your account, transcript, and agenda data.
VercelHosting for the website and the server functions.
Anthropic (Claude API)Evaluates your transcript to check off agenda items. Per Anthropic’s commercial terms, data sent through their API is not used to train their models.
Google Fonts & jsDelivrContent-delivery networks that serve fonts and the Supabase script to your browser; they receive your IP address and request metadata when a page loads.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or in connection with a business transfer. Each provider processes data under its own privacy and security commitments.

5. Other people in your meetings

A transcript can contain the words of other participants in your meeting. You — the account holder running Scribe — are responsible for having the right to capture that conversation and for obtaining any consent the law requires where you and the other participants are located. Please see our Terms of Service. Scribe is a tool you control; we do not independently obtain consent from the other people in your meetings.

6. Data storage, location, and security

Your data is stored by our providers (Supabase and Vercel), which may process and store it in the United States and other countries. We protect data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), database row-level security that isolates each account so users can only access their own data, and password hashing handled by Supabase. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data retention and deletion

Your transcript and agenda remain in your account until you remove them. The Reset control clears your current transcript and unchecks your agenda. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing ethanai@hennenhoefer.org; we will delete it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited information to comply with law.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email ethanai@hennenhoefer.org. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

9. Children

Scribe is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be made reasonably prominent. Your continued use of Scribe after a change means you accept the updated policy.
